Fairlie

The night we arrived in Hanmer Pam and I had a long talk about our proposed route to Mt. Cook. We decided it was not practical to drive down the west coast to see the glaciers, then inland via Wanaka and up to Mt. Cook. Instead we opted for a more direct route down the east coast. On the map Fairlie seemed to be a nice town within easy striking distance of Mt. Cook, so we planned to spend two nights there, with an excursion up to Mt. Cook in between.
Fairlie was indeed a nice town, with a wonderful campground and marvelous restaurant in the old library. After the first night we were up early and headed to Mount Cook. We returned to Fairlie for a second night before heading to Christchurch for a visit with Ted.
The drive to and from Mt. Cook was full of spectacular scenery, like this view of Lake Pukaki. (bottom)
