Manawatu Gorge

As we drove further south from Lake Taupo our route took us through Manawatu Gorge, a beautiful pass through the mountains. Our objective this night was Martinborough, a small vineyard town at the south end of the north island. Martinborough was just an hour and a half drive from Wellington, where our ferry to the south island was to leave from, making it a logical place to spend the night. Unfortunately, driving all the way from Taupo to Martinborough made for a very long day on the road. I would've liked to have stayed longer in this gorge, but we just didn't have time, and as you can see there's not much room on the side of the road for tourists!
