Stone Jug Farm

After the whale watch we all piled into the campervan and head west - for Stone Jug Farm! We arrived to meet my (quite distant, but nonetheless) cousin Jeremy and his wife, Tina. They and their two daughters maintain what seemed to us a huge farm of thousands of deer, sheep and cattle. They have a lovely house (above) with a rope swing and trampoline in the yard that our four children immediately took to. (below)

Family & Deer

Tina & Jeremy took us into a field near the house that had several hand raised deer and cows in it. Jeremy brought a bucket of grain with him, and that was all the encouragement the animals needed to come and meet us. (above) Tina said the cow's name was Daisy, and that she was being used for milk. (below) One of the deer didn't think much of Daisy, and kept chasing her away from the bucket of food. Daisy liked Jay, though, and cornered him against a fence.

Amanda & Daisy

After meeting some the animals we returned to the house where Tina had put on a fabulous lunch for us. (above) The children finally got to try Vegemite, and I wish I had my camera out for Scott's first bite! After lunch We all piled into Jeremy's four wheel drive for a tour of the farm. We drove around the fields then headed up Mt. Horrible, a large mountain behind the house which a portion of the farm runs up. The road, if it can be called that, twisted and turned along a very narrow track, but led to a splendid view. (below) This 180 degree view is actually a composite of several shots I pasted together. In the left of the image on the shore is the peninsula where KaiKoura is. In the center, on the valley floor and to the right of the river is where Jeremy & Tina's house is. On the right, under the rain clouds, is Christchurch. Or so Jeremy claims. We had a lovely visit with Jeremy and Tina, and hope someday they'll visit us.
