While preflighting my aircraft in St. Louis on a nearby gate in 1991 I found this Stearman parked next to a Honolulu bound 747, obviously for the purposes of a photo shoot. Fortunately for the Stearman I had my camera with me! Western Air Express began operating Stearman C3Bs like this one on CAM (Contract Air Mail Route) 12 in 1927. Western Air Express and TAT would merge in 1930 to form TWA.
